What is the CPEC? How can it help in development?
China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, a handshake project between Pakistan and China that will enhance the economy of both the countries and will lead to development. This project is being held at Gwadar, which is a port city located in Balochistan at the Southwestern coast of Pakistan.
The project is a collection of various infrastructure and energy projects, and includes the establishment of special economic zones. The corridor comprises a vast network of highways and railways to be built, spanning the length and breadth of Pakistan in order to link seaports in Gwadar and Karachi with the Chinese region of Xinjiang. A network of pipelines to transport liquefied natural gas and oil will also be laid as part of the project, including a pipeline between Gwadar and Nawabshah to eventually transport gas from Iran.
Pakistani officials predict that CPEC will result in the creation of upwards of 2.3 million jobs from 2015–2030, and add 2 to 2.5 percentage points to the country’s annual economic growth.
Balochistan is going from Bottom to Top
Balochistan was the most under developed province of Pakistan with a terror of terrorism but with-in the last few years it has developed. CPEC is taking the advantage of natural resources in Balochistan.
Pakistan’s economy was not in a good condition for the past few years but this project will improve the economy. For most of its history, Gwadar was a small to medium-sized settlement with an economy largely based on artisanal fishing.
